The right gate depends on the site as much as the security. Sliding gates are generally the most secure option because they are hard to force, even with a vehicle, and they are the answer where the ground rises inside the entrance or there is no room for a gate to swing. Cantilever versions run without a track across the opening, so there is nothing for grit, ice or a pallet to jam.

Bi-folding gates open and close quickly, which is why they are often called speed gates. They suit entrances with constant vehicle traffic, or sites that should only be open for a moment at a time. Telescopic gates do the job of a slider where there is too little run-back space beside the opening, because their sections overlap as they open, though they need level ground to run on. Swing gates remain the simplest option for a lower-traffic entrance, and the easiest to make look good.

Any of them can be automated and tied into access control. Powered gates move fast and carry weight, so safety comes first: the gate has to be specified, installed and used correctly. On the Holbeck site clearance, our sister company Fox Doors fabricated extended drop bolts for the gates on site and set sleeves into the ground, so the gates lock both safely and securely.

Why bring us in for security gates.

01

Chosen for the entrance

Sliding, bi-folding, swing or telescopic, specified for the traffic, the ground and the space you actually have.

02

Gate and fence together

The gate is part of the fence line, not an afterthought, so the finish, height and infill match.

03

The civils as well

Foundations, posts and any surfacing reinstatement handled by the same team, so the gate is finished properly.

Questions we get asked.

What is the most secure type of gate?

For most commercial sites it is a sliding gate. It is harder to force than a swing gate, even with a vehicle, and has fewer vulnerable points. A cantilever slider also has no track across the opening to jam.

Can you automate our existing gates?

Often, yes, if the gate and its posts are sound and suited to it. We will look at what is there and tell you whether automating it makes sense or whether a replacement is the better buy.

We have very little space beside the entrance. What are our options?

A telescopic gate needs much less run-back space than a standard slider because its sections overlap as it opens. A bi-folding gate folds within the opening. Both need the right ground conditions, which we check on survey.

Do you cover our area?

We work from two offices, our head office at Hunslet in Leeds and a second in Manchester, and between them they cover a band straight across the country: the North West, all of Yorkshire and the Humber, and the north Midlands down to Stoke, Derby and Nottingham. That is our day-to-day patch and most of our work is in it. Beyond that we regularly work in the North East, Cumbria and the Central Belt, and down through the wider Midlands, East Anglia and the South East, and we have delivered projects as far as Bristol. Send us a postcode and we will tell you straight away.
