Pest birds cause more than mess. Pigeon fouling damages stonework and roofing, blocks gutters and outlets, makes entrances slippery and unpleasant, and is a hygiene problem wherever food is prepared or stored. Bird spikes stop birds landing on ledges, parapets, signs and canopies, and netting keeps them out of larger areas such as loading bays, roof voids and plant enclosures.

Rodents are a different kind of problem, and a serious one for any business that handles food or stores goods. We deal with the infestation and then with how they got in, because sealing the entry points is what stops it coming back.

Timber treatment protects structural and external timber from woodworm, dry rot and wet rot. Rot usually has a cause, most often water getting in, so where we find it we look for the source as well as treating the timber, and our building teams can put the defect right.

Questions we get asked.

Are bird spikes or netting better?

Spikes stop birds landing on a specific ledge, sign or parapet. Netting keeps them out of a whole area, such as a loading bay, a courtyard or a roof void. Many buildings need both, and we will recommend the right mix on survey.

Can you clean up pigeon fouling as well?

Yes. We clear fouling and nesting material and clean the area before proofing it, because proofing over a fouled ledge leaves the problem half solved.

We have found rot in some timbers. What happens next?

We treat the affected timber, but rot almost always has a cause, usually water getting in. We look for that too, and because we are a building contractor we can repair the roof, gutter or wall that is letting the water in.

Do you cover our area?

We work from two offices, our head office at Hunslet in Leeds and a second in Manchester, and between them they cover a band straight across the country: the North West, all of Yorkshire and the Humber, and the north Midlands down to Stoke, Derby and Nottingham. That is our day-to-day patch and most of our work is in it. Beyond that we regularly work in the North East, Cumbria and the Central Belt, and down through the wider Midlands, East Anglia and the South East, and we have delivered projects as far as Bristol.
