Most of our fencing work is mesh and palisade, and palisade is the one to use when the priority is keeping people out. It reads as a barrier from a distance, which deters as much as it defends, and it copes with the knocks an industrial site hands out.

Industrial sites are rarely soft ground. At Holbeck, turning an overgrown plot into secure controlled parking, the perimeter was 2.4m palisade, and getting the posts in meant using a breaker attachment on a JCB. That is typical: much of the work in a palisade job is the ground it goes into, the clearance before it, and the surfacing either side of it afterwards.

We also repair and extend existing palisade. A bay taken out by a reversing lorry, pales cut through in a break-in, or a run that needs to follow a new boundary. Where it is practical we match what is already there, so the repair does not stand out as one.

Questions we get asked.

How high should our palisade fence be?

It depends on the risk and the site. Many industrial perimeters use 2.4m, which is what we installed at Holbeck, but lower heights suit lower-risk boundaries. We will recommend a height on survey and explain why.

Can you replace a section of damaged palisade?

Yes. Damaged bays and pales can be replaced without redoing the run, and we match the existing profile and finish where we can. If the site is exposed in the meantime, tell us and we will prioritise making it secure.

Galvanised or powder coated?

Galvanising is the protective finish; powder coating adds a colour on top, such as green or black, which is often preferred where the fence faces the public or a planning condition asks for it. We will talk you through the cost difference.

Do you cover our area?

We work from two offices, our head office at Hunslet in Leeds and a second in Manchester, and between them they cover a band straight across the country: the North West, all of Yorkshire and the Humber, and the north Midlands down to Stoke, Derby and Nottingham. That is our day-to-day patch and most of our work is in it. Beyond that we regularly work in the North East, Cumbria and the Central Belt, and down through the wider Midlands, East Anglia and the South East, and we have delivered projects as far as Bristol.
