Cladding decides how a building looks and how well it holds its heat, and tired cladding is often the thing standing between a unit and a tenant. On Kettlestring Lane in York we stripped the stained, rusting cladding from two elevations and the front facade, replaced the redundant insulation with new Rockwool, and re-clad it, formed around every window and door and finished with new flashings, drip trays and powder-coated gutters.

Overcladding covers what is already there instead of removing it, which is often quicker and cheaper and avoids disposal costs. For a Suzuki dealership in Hunslet we overclad a brick extension in anthracite to match the main building: Z bars fixed to the brickwork, framing around the openings, single-skin corrugated cladding finished 150mm off the ground with a formed drip tray, and new cappings over the existing coping.

On bigger industrial jobs cladding is part of a wider refurbishment. At DX Haigh Park in Stourton we re-clad a distribution building alongside new roller shutters and roof sheeting, and at Hawthorne Court in Morley we replaced the external cladding as part of turning one shed into nine lettable units.

Questions we get asked.

Should we re-clad or overclad?

Overcladding is often quicker and cheaper, and avoids stripping and disposing of the old cladding, as long as the structure and the existing surface can take it. Re-cladding is the answer when the insulation behind needs replacing or the old cladding has to come off. We survey and recommend.

Can you replace a few damaged panels?

Yes. Impact damage and localised corrosion can be repaired panel by panel, and we match the profile and colour as closely as the available products allow.

What is cut edge corrosion?

Rust that starts at the cut edges of profiled steel sheets, usually along the bottom of the sheets on a roof or wall. Treated early, it can be stopped and sealed without replacing the sheets.

Do you cover our area?

We work from two offices, our head office at Hunslet in Leeds and a second in Manchester, and between them they cover a band straight across the country: the North West, all of Yorkshire and the Humber, and the north Midlands down to Stoke, Derby and Nottingham. That is our day-to-day patch and most of our work is in it. Beyond that we regularly work in the North East, Cumbria and the Central Belt, and down through the wider Midlands, East Anglia and the South East, and we have delivered projects as far as Bristol.
