This project involved the refurbishment of a small, single-storey brick building located in Spennymoor, currently operating as the site’s security hub. The aim was to modernise the internal environment, enhancing both functionality and aesthetics to create a more comfortable and welcoming workspace for security personnel.

Scope of Works

A comprehensive internal upgrade was undertaken, including:

• Mechanical & Electrical Improvements
  • Installation of new energy-efficient LED lighting throughout
  • Provision of electric heating to improve comfort and usability
• Internal Finishes & Decoration
  • Full redecoration of all previously painted surfaces, including walls, ceilings, skirting boards, and door frames
  • Contemporary colour scheme introduced, with crisp white walls complemented by black timber accents for a clean, modern finish
• Washroom Refurbishment
  • Complete renewal of male and female toilet facilities
  • Installation of new sanitaryware, including vanity sink units and toilets with concealed cisterns for a streamlined appearance
• Joinery & Bespoke Elements
  • Installation of new oak veneered internal doors throughout
  • Bespoke cabinetry-style doors fitted to discreetly house electrical boards, CCTV, and server equipment, improving both access and visual presentation
• Flooring
  • New vinyl flooring installed across the building, chosen for durability, ease of maintenance, and suitability for high-traffic use
• Structural Alterations
  • Two redundant doorways carefully bricked up using materials matched to the existing structure
  • One opening adapted to incorporate a new double-glazed PVC window, maintaining the flow of natural light into the internal corridor

Outcome

The completed refurbishment has transformed the security hub into a brighter, more functional and professional workspace. The upgrades not only improve day-to-day usability for staff but also bring the building in line with modern standards in both design and performance, whilst respecting the existing structure.
